Adventures For The Mind and Body
Imagine the last time you truly felt alive. It was probably a time when you got out of your comfort zone and experienced something new, maybe even something you never thought you would be able to do. If it’s been too long since you’ve had that feeling, then it’s time for a change. One of the best ways to feel truly energized and alive is to get your heart pumping with some physical activity.
You Can Dance If You Want To
As a teenager, you probably dreamed of dancing with your crush at prom or homecoming. But when you got there, the room spontaneously divided itself by gender, with the boys on one side and the girls other. The few couples that did dance just kind of swayed awkwardly, with no real sense of rhythm.
The good news is, the rest of your life is not high school. If you want to learn how to dance, there’s nothing to stop you now. Regardless of your age or fitness level, you can find a dance style that works for you. The first step is contacting a local dance studio to discuss your goals. Will you be attending as a couple or on your own? Are you looking to learn a specific dance, or just get some basic training for the next time you find yourself near a dance floor? Maybe you’re smitten with salsa, or mesmerized by merengue. With a little time and patience, you can be dancing with the confidence and grace you’ve always wanted. It won’t be like those awkward school dances. It will be much better.
If you’re not sure if dancing is for you, see if you can observe a class before committing. Many dance studios will also give you a special introductory deal on the first class or two you take. They want you to learn, but there’s no rule that says learning can’t be fun.
Up in the Air
You’ve probably heard of riding a zip line, but have you heard of aerial adventure courses? They’re like zip lines on steroids. It’s an obstacle course, but you can’t do it on the ground. Nope, you’ll have to get up in the trees for this, but that just adds to the thrill. If you’re intrigued, get to an aerial adventure park and get ready for a challenge like no other. Aerial obstacle courses are generally self-guided, although trained staff members stay close by in case you need assistance. You’ll tackle Tarzan swings, balance beams, wobbly bridges, and more as you make your way through the course. The course has different levels based on difficulty, so you can always stop if you think you’ve reached your limit. Of course, if you have any medical concerns, you should see a doctor before you visit an aerial adventure park. Weight minimums and maximums also apply, and there are also height requirements you have to meet before you can start the aerial obstacle course. If obstacle courses aren’t your thing, you and a friend can race each other on tandem zip lines, or you can climb forty feet straight up a tree just to say you did.
There are days that just go by in a blur, with nothing really special or distinctive about them. Then there are days when you decide to step outside the mainstream and really take a leap of faith. Those days tend to be the most memorable ones. So pick your flavor of adventure and get started. Life is short, and there’s no time to waste.
