Most people do not know what to expect, when traveling abroad because they do not take the time allowance to do research. Do not allow yourself to experience culture shock, which is exactly what will happen if you do not do your homework.

Service Differences

When you get the change to do some shopping in India, you will be shocked with how helpful the shop employees are. India is known as a service based group of people, unlike Americans, who do not bother to offer assistance to their customers. The Indians are more than willing to scrub your home clean, prepare your food, and chauffeur you around the city, for near pennies. These helpful people are very kind because of the way were raised. Americans feel that others are self-sufficient and do not need help, unlike the Indians who are always close by just in case you do need help. This is a great example of the two country’s culture differences.

Obeying Traffic Laws

While Americans are afraid to disobey the traffic laws, mostly because they do not want to get traffic fine, Indians do not give a hoot about traffic laws. In India the drivers will hardly veer to pedestrians or bicycles because they do not have to, but in America a driver with kindly wait for them to pass. Most Indians are passive aggressive and do not get upset if someone cuts them off. Americans have a huge problem with road rage and sometimes it does get out of control, to the point where someone ends up getting hurt.

Human Size

Americans are obese because they like to eat a lot. In India the obese people are the rich people. The poor people are unable to afford sweets and treats to each and they are always working at some type of job. Americans rich or poor are obese because they do not know how to moderate their intake and discipline themselves. This is definitely a huge difference in cultures and you need to be aware of them.

Foods

In India you can buy a dozen of carrots for twenty cents, but in America a dozen carrots will cost your nearly three dollars. Junk food in America is always at it’s lowest and that is why people tend to buy it. In India a box of cereal will cost at an average of six dollars, but in America you can buy a box of cereal for two dollars and a half.
