PHP Quick History
PHP was first developed by Rasmus Lerdorf, a Danish Canadian programmer. The script sprouted in 1995 which makes it at least 23 years old. The newest and current version of the script is PHP 7.2.2 which was just released this year, 2018.
PHP was first an instrument to maintain personal homepages but has grown into web forms which then experienced upgrades to be able to communicate with various databases. After which, programmers like Zeeve Suraski and Andi Gutmans further improved it. As the PHP upgraded to its fifth version (PHP 5), it became one of the most stable releases.
How to Improve Your PHP Skills
There are a lot of ways you can learn PHP 5 or improve your skills. You can absolutely join short courses on any school, read and watch tutorials, or even enrol in online courses. But if you want quick and important tips, here are some of the important things you need to learn and apply to your work.
- Use a configuration file.
Instead of scattering your codes on different files, organize them by creating a master file. This keeps things neat and can save you a lot of time compared to opening a lot of files at the same time for one particular project you have.
- Use a good source editor.
By choosing a good source editor that is user-friendly and organized, this can help you save time in many ways. Since you will be spending most of your time doing codes with source editors, choosing a trusted and easy one can help you cut off time by sparing you from confusing controls and interface.
- Stop over-commenting your codes.
Of course, you want a perfect and clean code, but commenting on every line is really unnecessary. It would be best to comment on complicated areas rather than the entire code. By doing so, you can easily go back to it without reading unnecessary comments which can slow you down.
- Keep your error reporting turned on.
Using error_reporting and display_errors can help you track the errors in your code in real time. You don’t have to keep figuring out where you went wrong if you apply this tip to your current or next coding project.
- Core functions and classes are helpful.
To make your codes easy, clean, and hassle-free, all you need to do is utilize and learn about PHP 5 core functions. This eliminates your need to create new functions every time when there are functions and classes you can type right away.
